The Nawab of Murshidabad, perhaps Nawab Babar ‘Ali (1793-1810), going in procession through the Chauk to Munny Begum’s mosque. He is accompanied by elephants, litters, ‘raths,’ camels with kettle drums, outriders, musicians and sepoys. Imperial kettledrums etc. sound in the ‘naqqarkhana’ above the gateway.
Inscribed on back in pencil: ‘Nabob’s Mosque and Choke Moorshedabad;’ in ink: ‘Grand Procession to the Mosque through the Choke or Enclosure by the Nawaub of Morshedabad in’ ‘State’.

Note: cf. a similar painting in the V & A (11 (10/49)-1887) where the inscription identifies the mosque as Munny Begum’s and the procession as that at Bakr Id.
