One of two illustrated pages from a dispersed manuscript of the Khamsa of Amir Khusraw of Delhi: The wayfarer and the sage who controls his tongue.
- Scope & Content:
-
The wayfarer and the sage who controls his tongue, the traveller kneeling talking to the nimbate sage seated on the other side of a flowering plant. Two other plants at edges and curtain swags above complete the composition. A solid red background.
Ink, and opaque water-colour on paper; size of folio 320 by 255 mm; miniature 95 by 205 mm.
Note: From the ‘Matla‘ al-Anvar’. Published erroneously in A. Upham-Pope’s ‘Survey of Persian Art’ as belonging to McGill University. The flowering plant on the right, itself partly overpainted, has also had a decorative panel of decidedly Sultanate appearance stuck down over half of it.
