Scenes at a fair ground. At the top on either side, two large figures wearing red jackets, dancing breeches and peacock feathers; the figure to the left holding a long cylindrical drum ‘(tumdak’),’ the figure to the right holding a stout stick. Between them, two small Santal figures executing the ‘paik’ or stick dance accompanied by a third figure beating a hide-covered bowl-shaped drum ‘(tamak)’ and a small fourth figure clashing a gong (?). Below, two large figures in yellow shirts and red trousers working a ferris wheel on which four Santal boys are riding. At the foot of the wheel, two Santal boys persuading a pair of Santal girls to go on the wheel with them.

Note: The large figures were identified by the artists as musicians of the Dom (Hindu) caste, often employed by Santals for special drumming at weddings (W.G. Archer (1974), 177).
