Four-arched bridge across a river, a camel and rider passing over, men washing clothes and cattle drinking.
Inscribed on reverse: ‘Views in India No.38. Antient [sic] Bridge at Sirhind on the borders of the Siekh Country & on the Great road from Delhi to Lahore. built by Shah Acbar-1808’. In a different hand ‘P.Wm Forrest 1864’.
28.4 by 42.5 cm.
Note: A finished version of WD4324, with minor differences, for example the self-portrait does not appear in this version. The main inscription is in the same hand as that on WD4323-5, which must be that of Forrest, although the earlier ones appear to have been overwritten later. The signature is probably that of one of Forrest’s sons. Forrest seems to have prepared more finished works ready for engraving than were finally used in ‘A picturesque tour along the rivers Ganges and Jumna.’
