Moorcroft and Hearsey on the road to Lake Mansarowar (Tibet). The travellers, wearing Indian dress, and riding on yaks, are shown meeting two Tibetans on horseback with a loaded yak. Snows in the background and five horses in the middle distance. c. July 1812.
Inscribed on back in pencil: ‘Kylass Mt. Road to Mansarowar Lake. Mr Moorcroft and Capt. H. and Chinese Horsemen.’
Water-colour; 14 by 20.5 ins.
Note: This may be the incident related by Moorcroft in ‘Asiatick Researches’, xix, 1816, 456.
