‘A Bungalow in the Park, Barrackpore’.
Water-colour and pen and ink; 12.5 by 20.5 cm.
Note: Barrackpore House was so small, that visitors were usually accommodated in bungalows in the park, see Victor Jacquemont’s description of his visit. Mrs. James writes of a visit made to Lord and Lady Amherst at Barrackpore in February 1828 where they ‘‘... became initiated in Indian customs, sleeping in bungalows apart from the house, and riding on elephants to see the beauties of the scenery’’.
