Inscribed on front in ink: ‘These sketches by her Great-Uncle are presented by Louisa Twining 1900 by Thomas Longcroft. in Behar, about 1790.’

Note: A number of pictures (e.g. Add.Or.1962), attributed to Thomas Longcroft, but different in style from those signed by himself, are clearly by Indian painters. Longcroft probably left a miscellaneous collection of drawings, some his own work, others by Indians in semi-European style. All have been indiscriminately ascribed to him. This drawing is almost certainly by an Indian painter from Bihar or Bengal.
