Portrait head of Sir Charles Forbes in the classical style.
Inscribed on label on reverse: ‘Chas.’ ‘Forbes Born 3rd April 1773. Painted by E. Nash. Bombay. April 1809’.
Grisaille on ivory; 8 by 6 cm, oval.
Purchased 1994.
Note: Sir Charles Forbes (d.1849) was for some years head of the firm of Forbes & Co., of Bombay. He returned to England and was an MP from 1812 to 1832. His statue by Sir Francis Chantrey was erected in Bombay Town Hall in 1841, in memory of his high standing in the community.
