Inscribed on reverse: ‘Portrait of the Maharajah Runjeet Singh aged 58. King of the Sikhs & ruler of the Panjab, Ladak, Kashmir & Peshawar. From an original portrait now in England and taken during the late visit of his Excellency Sir Henry Fane Commander-in-Chief of the King’s army in India to Lahore for the purpose of attending the marriage of No Nahal Singh the Maharaja’s grandson at Ataree in the Panjab on the 8th March 1837’.
Water-colour; 11 by 10.2 cm.
Note: A copy of Vigne’s original water-colour was published as a lithograph by Day and Haghe, London, 1838.
