Nine water-colour drawings of plants from the Deccan, bound in a volume measuring 12.5 by 8 inches entitled 'No.1. General and District Geographical Descriptions'.
This volume is the first part of Sykes' 'First Report on Statistics of the Dukhun, 1826', which is inscribed, 'Transmitted by W.H. Sykes, Capn. Offg. Statl. Reptr. to Govt. Bombay, 10th May, 1826'. It contains 9 drawings made to scale by Bombardier Llewellyn L. Fidlor.
The drawings are inscribed as follows, each plant having its name given in Marathi:
i. 'Jonesia Ashoka, or pinnata. Jaswunt or Wassungee or Ashoka.'
ii. 'An extraordinarily large Wuhr (Ficis indica) at the village of Mhow, Undur Mawul.' Sykes' camp with tent and horses is shown under the tree.
iii. 'Peempree (Ficus -) embracing the Peempul (Ficus religiosa) at Ambolee Baum Ner.'
iv. 'Peempree. Ficus - embracing the Sawree (Bombax Neptaphyllum) and letting down roots from a branch at Choke in the Konkun Travellers' Bungalow.'
v.& vi. 'Medicinal Plants. Saal Phul, Boswellia thurifera. Astc Rechs. Gum olibanum Tree.'
vii. 'Peempul, Ficus religiosa with Lac upon it, the produce of the insect, Coccus laccus.'
viii. 'Spontaneous Plants. Wild Cinnamon. Jarhee Dalcheenee. Laurus cassia.'
ix. 'Indian Willow. Wallunj. Salix tetrasperma Rox.'
