46 drawings of Indian sports in sepia ink on thin paper normally folded, with drawings on both sides in album format. c.1810-13.
Inscribed where noted by D’Oyly, with additional titles taken from the corresponding subjects in WD4440(2). Four of the drawings (ff.22-23) have no correspondence in the engraved set.
Pen-and-ink; 125 by 205mm
The original wrapping paper is inscribed: ‘(Duplicate) by the Northampton/J. Landseer Esq/33 Foley Street/ London/21st June 1813’, with wax seal, and watermarked: ‘S. Wise & Patch 1809’ with the EICo’s badge.
Note: The ‘Northampton’ under Capt. Thomas Barker sailed from Portsmouth on 14th July 1812 for Bengal, and returned to England on 20th May 1814.
