Contains docketed sets of papers, numbered 151 to 175, consisting of correspondence relating to appointments to posts and other matters. These papers were originally contained in one bundle of one hundred docketed sets of papers, labelled ‘No. 2 Private Secretary’s Correspondence, Nos. 101 to 200’. Each numbered set of papers usually consists of an original letter sent to the Private Secretary to the Governor General, or to the Governor General, a copy of the reply from the Private Secretary, Humphrey de Bohun Devereux, and other papers. In addition, for each set of papers, either on the back of the original letter, or on a separate sheet of paper, is written the number of the set of papers, the year, the name of the writer of the original letter, the official position and location of the sender, the date the letter was despatched, the date it was received, the date it was answered, any cross references to other papers, a brief summary of the letter and a note of any enclosures. Number 159 has a red cross on it to indicate that it ‘may be preserved’. Numbers 166, 168 and 169 are missing.
151. March 1856. Letter from Baboo Praunauth Bose, Calcutta. Forwards 2 invitation cards to the Governor General, and Private Secretary for his party. See also 78, 158. Letter from Mr Edmonstone No. 156, and from Mr Beadon No. 157.
152. March to April 1856. Letter from Baboo Peary Chund Mitter, Secretary and Librarian, Metcalfe Hall, Calcutta. Sends a new catalogue of the Library and an enclosure for the Governor General (no longer enclosed). Copy of reply, acknowledgement and copy of a letter to Mr Trevor, asking for information about the Library. Governor General's Book No. 30.
153. March to April 1856. Letter from Ram Chund Mullick, Calcutta. Repeats his application for the post of Dewan. Copy of reply, Private Secretary can add nothing to former reply. See also 6, 44, 209.
154. April 1856. Letter from Mr R Pereira, uncovenanted Assistant to the Commissioner of the Dacca Division. Asks for a transfer to Oudh, with testimonials. Copy of reply, the Governor General does not nominate uncovenanted officers, testimonials returned.
155. March to April 1856. Letter from Mr W C Hollings, Cawnpore. Acknowledges letter about his brother's case. 1/2 anna stamp. Copies of 3 letters on the subject; the case has been considered and will not be re-opened. Governor General 's Book No. 19, 37. See also 178, 254, 265, 313, 354.

159. April 1856. Letter from Mr D Money, Civil Service Calcutta. Is astonished to learn that his selection by the Lieutenant Governor for the Sudder Court had been rejected by the Government of India, and asks advice as to how he may appeal. Copy of reply, submit claims in writing. Also draft reply. See also 165, 177.
160. April 1856. Letter from Mr H Ricketts, Calcutta. Will attend the Governor General the following day. Copy of earlier letter asking him to call.
161. April 1856. Letter from Mr T Roger, Calcutta. Asks for a letter of recommendation for employment. Copy of reply, refusing.
162. March to April 1856. Letter from Monsieur A M Montigny, Professor of Gymnastics, Presidency and Hooghly Colleges, Calcutta. Asks for Governor General's patronage for the proposed Gymnastics Academy. Copy of reply, refusing.
164. April 1856. Copy of reply to Mr J Stephen, Calcutta. Acknowledging his letter.
165. April 1856. Letter from Mr D Money, Calcutta. Asks for an interview with the Private Secretary. See also 159, 177.
167. April 1856. Letter from Mr S Wauchope, Officiating Junior Secretary to the Board of Revenue. Thanks the Governor General for the offer of the appointment of acting Chief Magistrate of Calcutta, and accepts. Copies of 2 letters about the conditions governing the post. See also 170, 532.
170. April 1856. Letter from Mr C Beadon. About Mr S Wauchope's appointment as acting Chief Magistrate of Calcutta. 2 letters. See also 167, 532.
170a. April 1856. Copy of a letter to the Editor of the Bombay Times. Asking him to supply a copy of the Bombay Directory.
171. April 1856. Letter from Baboo Greehur Bose Roy, & Co, Projectors, Calcutta. Acknowledges the Governor General's donation towards the Chittore Road Gunanhatta Charitable School. See also 126, 814, 1387.

172. March to April 1856. Letter from James Hume Esq., Calcutta. Asks to be appointed Chief Magistrate of Calcutta, with testimonials (no longer enclosed). Copy of reply, the appointment has already been offered elsewhere.
173. March to April 1856. Letter from Major F C Burnett, 2nd Troop 2nd Brigade Horse Artillery, Secretary Agri-Horticultural Society of the Punjab, Lahore. Asks the Governor General to be the Society's patron. Copy of reply, accepting.
174. March to April 1856. Letter from Mr F Kight Esq., Member of the College of Surgeons, Cawnpore. Asks for an audience, with enclosure. Copy of reply, refusing audience.
175. March to April 1856. Letter from Mr E F Pereira, late Head Clerk in the Post Office at Cochin. Asks to be re-employed in the Post Office, with testimonials. Copy of reply, the Governor General does not distribute appointments in the Post Office.
