Contains docketed sets of papers, numbered 1126 to 1150, consisting of correspondence, relating to applications for posts and other matters. These papers were originally contained in one bundle of one hundred docketed sets of papers, labelled ‘No. 11 Private Secretary’s Correspondence, Nos. 1101 to 1200’. Each numbered set of papers usually consists of an original letter sent to the Private Secretary to the Governor General, or to the Governor General, a copy of the reply from the Private Secretary, Gerald Chetwynd Talbot, and any other papers. In addition, for each set of papers, either on the back of the original letter, or on a separate sheet of paper, is written the number of the set of papers, the year, the name of the writer of the original letter, the official position and location of the sender, the date the letter was despatched, the date it was received, the date it was answered, any cross references to other papers, a brief summary of the letter and a note of any enclosures. Numbers 1126, 1144, and 1145 have a red cross on them, to indicate that they ‘may be preserved’, whilst ‘the rest may be destroyed’. Number 1133 is missing.
1126. November 1856. Petition of certain inhabitants of Calcutta. Asking for a respite of the extreme penalty of the law passed upon Private Clarey, Her Majesty's 53rd Regiment, on the grounds of his insanity. Copy of reply, the law must take its course.
1127. November 1856. Letter from Mr George Plowden, Commissioner of Nagpore, Seetabuldee. Asks for Lieutenant E S Milman, Madras Horse Artillery, as Officiating Assistant Commissioner and suggest Lieutenant C H Ricketts, 5th Madras Cavalry, as Adjutant of the Cavalry Regiment. Copy of reply, approved. Note from Major Bouverie. See also 1376.
1128. November 1856. Letter from Madame Blanche, Calcutta. Writes about her first concert. Encloses 2 programmes printed on silk. Copies of 2 replies, the Governor General will take 5 tickets. See also 1037, 1129.

1130. November 1856. Letter from Ensign F M M Sitwell, 31st Native Infantry, Barrackpore. As the recent augmentation will increase the number of officers present with his regiment to 6, he hopes the Private Secretary will help him to an appointment. Copy of reply, Private Secretary will keep him in mind. Copy of earlier letter to him. See also 689, 1265.

1136. November 1856. Letter from Major G P Thomas, 3rd European Regiment, Calcutta. States his services. Copy of reply, acknowledgement. See also 1088.
1137. November 1856. Letter from Moonshee Abdool Lateef, care of Brigadier J C Coffin, Commanding Hyderabad Subsidiary Force, Secunderabad. Asks for some employment in the Public offices. Copy of reply, apply to local authorities.

1139. November 1856. Letter from Sir H M Lawrence, Knight Commander of the Order of Bath, Governor General's Agent, Rajputana, Mount Aboo. Suggests Dr T M Lownde of the Bombay Establishment, in medical charge of the Sanatorium, Mount Aboo, as successor to Dr Young of the Jodhpore Legion. (Cover only). See also 1349.
1140. November 1856. Letter from General Sir M Cubbon, Knight Commander of the Order of Bath,Commissioner of Mysore, Nundydroog. In reply, about the appointment of Superintendent of the Nuggur Division, Major Porter, having gone on leave. Copy of 2 earlier letters about this. Note from Mr Edmonstone.
1141. November 1856. Letter from Lieutenant F W Brodie, 21st Native Infantry, Adjutant of Cavalry United Malwa Contingent, and Officiating Commandant of Cavalry, Mehidpore. Encloses a letter to the Governor General from Lord Brougham. See also 1529. Governor General's Book No. 238.
1142. November to December 1856. Letter from Mr J Crawford, Retired Conductor, Public Works Department Serampore. Asks to submit Lieutenant Alexander's Report reflecting on his official character. Copy of reply, the Governor General has studied the papers, and sees no reason to re-open the case. Also acknowledgement. See also 388, 432, 1172, 1184, 1278, 1520.
1143. November 1856. Letter from the Honourable J P Grant, Calcutta. Recommends Mr J de Valadares, who asks for Lady Canning's patronage for a concert. Copy of reply, patronage refused, the Governor General will take 5 tickets. Note to Major Bouverie.

1147. October to November 1856. Letter from Beebee Ameerun, widow of Kobir, late Serang of the State Pinnace 'Sonamooky'. Asks for Government aid to support her children. Report from the Superintendent State Yacht Establishment.
1148. November 1856. Letter from Mr T H Lloyd, Calcutta. Submits his views on the employment of uncovenanted agency by the Government. Copy of reply, it is unlikely that he will obtain an uncovenanted appointment under the Government. See also 1132.
1149. November 1856. Copy of reply to Major E C Goad, Alipore. His application has been transferred to the Military Secretary.
1150. November to December 1856. Letter from Mr J Samuel, Calcutta. Repeats his application for an audience. Note that he wishes his pension increased. Copy of reply, the Governor General cannot act. See also 1146.
