Contains docketed set of papers number 1319. These papers were originally included in one bundle of one hundred docketed sets of papers, labelled ‘No. 14 Private Secretary’s Correspondence, Nos. 1301 to 1400’. Contains: letter from George Francis Brown, former Commissioner of Bhangulpore, Calcutta; enclosed papers for submission to the Governor General about Brown’s removal from office for his conduct during the Bhagulpore insurrection, including four printed copies of Brown’s Memorial; and copies of two letters of reply from the Private Secretary to the Governor General, Gerald Chetwynd Talbot.
The docketed letter from Brown to Talbot, dated 3 January 1856, has a red cross on it, to indicate that it ‘may be preserved’.
