Contains docketed sets of papers, numbered 1351 to 1375, consisting of correspondence, relating to applications for posts and other matters. These papers were originally included in one bundle of one hundred docketed sets of papers, labelled ‘No. 14 Private Secretary’s Correspondence, Nos. 1301 to 1400’. Each numbered set of papers usually consists of an original letter sent to the Private Secretary to the Governor General, or to the Governor General, a copy of the reply from the Private Secretary, Gerald Chetwynd Talbot, and any other papers. In addition, for each set of papers, either on the back of the original letter, or on a separate sheet of paper, is written the number of the set of papers, the year, the name of the writer of the original letter, the official position and location of the sender, the date the letter was despatched, the date it was received, the date it was answered, any cross references to other papers, and a brief summary of the letter. Numbers 1352, 1357, 1358, 1360, and 1374 have a red cross on them, to indicate that they ‘may be preserved’, whilst ‘the rest may be destroyed’.

1353. December 1856 to January 1857. Letter from Capt D S Dodgson, 30th Native Infantry, Brigade Major of Benares. Has forwarded a small model of a Hindu temple at Benares.
1354. January 1857. Letter from Lieutenant A G St J Mildmay, 3rd Bombay European Regiment Assistant to the Governor General's Agent, Rajputana, on leave, Bombay. Asks for promotion. Copy of reply, application noted. See also 1375.
1355. January 1857. Letter from Lieutenant C G Gunning, 37th Madras Native Infantry, Madras. Has passed the staff examination, and asks for an appointment, 1/2 anna stamp. Copy of reply, application noted.
1356. January 1857. Letter from Mr J A Craigie, Civil and Sessions Judge, Saugor and Nerbudda territories, Camp Hushangabad. Asks for employment under the Government of India, would like to succeed Mr Bushby at Hyderabad. Sends a return on the duties of his office. Copy of reply, application noted, many men more highly qualified for Bushby's post. Note from Mr Edmonstone.

1369. January 1857. Letter from Lieutenant T E Kennion, Artillery, Dum Dum. States that a battery in Oudh or the Punjab would be preferable to a small civil appointment. See also 1215, 3026.
1370. January 1857. Letter from the Hon J A Dorin, Calcutta. Recommends Lieutenant J T Bushby, 67th Bengal Native Infantry, for civil employment in the Bengal Presidency with a letter from Bushby, son of the late Resident at Hyderabad. Copy of reply, his name will be laid before the Governor General. See also 1866.
