Correspondence of Hugh Oakeley Arnold-Forster's aunt and adoptive mother, Jane Martha Forster, including:

• 112 letters from Jane to Oakeley, 1885-1895 (many undated). Also included amongst the letters are two newspaper clippings regarding the Forster Memorial Institute, 19 June 1901.
• 9 letters from Oakeley to Jane regarding: his hope to marry Mary, 9 November 1884; his first letter from the House of Commons, 4 August 1892; his first speech in the House of Commons, 13 February 1893; his memories of old Christmas at Fox How, 30 December 1894; his visit to Belfast, 30 June 1895; her birthday, 31 July 1895; his uncle Matthew's letters, 3 December 1895; a talk with Chamberlain, 4 June 1896; her happy birthday, 31 July 1897. There is a short description of the content on the envelope of most of the letters, handwritten by [Mary Arnold-Forster].

The file also includes:

• extract of a letter with a note handwritten by [Frances Arnold-Forster] ‘from Oakeley’s letter to Aunt Fan [sic] (Feb 6 1901, describing the funeral service for the Queen at Windsor (St George's Chapel) on Feb 2’;
• empty large envelope with note by [Mary Arnold-Forster]‘Old letters which I have not cared to destroy…'.
