4. Printed memorandum of the services of Lieutenant Colonel Sir Richmond Shakespear, 1856. Received from General Low 25 Apr 1856. Also paper containing copy of letter from Lord Dalhousie offering Gwalior to Shakespear, and copy of Shakespear's reply that he would prefer to remain at Joudpore. In envelope.

6. Copy of a letter from Thomas Spears, Amarapoora, to Major Phayre, 22 Feb 1856. The Maquay Woon gyee has promised not to allow Mong Bo to leave Amarapoora before the full term agreed upon has expired. Explains about the person called Moung Tin Bo, heir apparent to the throne of Ava'in the 'Rangoon Chronicle'. The King is grateful for the promise of the model skeleton to be sent from England, also for the little steamer. D'Orgoni and his party will leave in about 8 days for their Mission to France. Mr Maling has gone north of Martaban to report on the teak forests there. Mr Kincaid and Dr Dawson have arrived, with a map of the world in Burmese characters for presentation to the King.
7. Copy of letter from Major Phayre, on the way to Bassein, to G.F. Edmonstone, 20 Mar 1856. The so-called embassy to France from Ava has arrived. It consists of 3 inferior officers, one of whom is an Armenian, accompanied by D'Orgoni.

9. Memorandum by C H Lushington regarding Cash Balances, Apr 1856.
10. Copy of a report by the Bishop of Calcutta on the Ecclesiastical Establishment of the Diocese of Calcutta. List of clergy. 12 Jan 1856.
11. Newscutting from the 'Bombay Gazette', giving the number, designation, salaries and emoluments of the Bombay Covenanted Civil Service for 1855. 7 May 1856. In envelope.
12. Translation of a letter from the King of Oudh to Lord Canning, 13 Mar 1856. The news of Lord Canning's accession has enlivened the King's drooping spirits. Complains that he has just been deprived of his hereditary dominion, and is now confident that he will assist him to be restored to his territory.
13. Copy of a letter from William O'Shaughnessy to Cecil Beadon, off Malta, 15 Apr 1856. Condems Red Sea Route to India for the submarine telegraph from England, and suggesting the line from Kurrachee to Bussora, up the Tigris to Baghdad and Mosul and so to Scutari. In envelope. Endorsed: See Governor General's Minute dated 27 May 1856.
