Scope & Content:

Series of miscellaneous papers, manuscript and printed, on subjects as diverse as finances, taxation, agriculture, road building, railways, relationships with Indian princes, matters of governance, legislation, the Mutiny, the Army, the Police etc., filed in the Private Secretary's Office. Each item, no. 1-1129, is numbered but often comes with additional enclosures and supporting documents. Each item is registered in two volumes (Mss Eur F699/1/2/6/1-2). Often items are annotated. Some annotations refer to correspondence sent with the Papers on Miscellaneous Subjects, and they can be found in the series of Private Secretary's Letters Received (Mss Eur F699/1/2/2).

Material dates primarily from the period 1856-1862, although there are copies of earlier papers, often in bundles of later papers.
