171. Letter from Mr Gubbins to Mr Leekie, 9 Aug 1857, about Man Sing's request to go to Lucknow to rescue his aunt, and in the event of a row with the sepoys, to attack and exterminate them. He has offered to seize the Nana Sahib and make him over to the British, has surrendered 4 sepoys of the Loodiana Corps, and Gubbins is trying to persuade him to declare openly in favour of the British, and to declare that Koer Sing has maligned him. In envelope.

175. Letter from Gujraj Kuppa, Nepal, to Mr Brian Hodgson, 3 Jun 1857. He is pleased to hear of the Lieutenant Governor's recent visit to Darjeeling. He has given a translation of his letter to the Maharajah of Nepal, who appreciates the friendly feeling shown him, and who believes that the present attempt of the sepoys cannot weaken the powers of the British, but promises assistance should the infection become general. Reports the death of the Prime Minister, and of the probable appointment of one of his brothers as his successor.
