192. Memorandum by Lord Canning regarding the case of Mr Tayler of Patna.
193. Note from Lord Canning circulating telegraphic messages of 29 - 30 Nov 1857 about preparations made to defend Benares. The Governor General acted as time would have been lost by consultation. Asks for Council's approval. Also suggests that should there not be an early success against the Gwalior men the Commander in Chief should be authorised to call General Outram's Division from Lucknow if necessary. Comments by Dorin, Low, Peacock. Enclosed: 8 copies of telegrams received or sent. Also memorandum of instructions given to Colonel Franks, who is to go to Benares to take command with all possible speed. In envelope.
