Letters from Palmerston of December 1857 regarding the abolition of the East India Company and offering Clanricarde the post of Lord Privy Seal, and a copy letter to Palmerston from Clanricarde accepting the post if the Indian government is to be changed.
Also includes letters regarding statements made against Clanricarde as a result of the Handcock versus Delacour affair, the affadavit filed in the Irish Court of Chancery and published in a pamphlet, and dissuading him from making a statement in the House of Lords. Includes letters from Lord Palmerston and Lord Grenville.
