He will do nothing to dissuade the Rajah to throw aside his right of adoption. The tenure of the Rajah's life is uncertain from the intrigues of the Court; Osborne believes that if after nominating privately his heir, the Rajah announced his intention of bequeathing his territory to the British Government, in the event of direct heirs failing, his life would be saved. The Rajah's family can be traced back for 1,200 years at Rewah, and only on one occasion has there been no direct heir, when a brother succeeded. Trusts the Governor General will not disapprove of his granting Lieutenant Acton a month's privilege leave; asks for a good officer in his stead.
