Contains docketed sets of papers, numbered 10201 to 10234, consisting of correspondence, relating to applications for posts and other matters. These papers were originally included in one bundle of one hundred docketed sets of papers, labelled ‘No. 103 Private Secretary’s Correspondence, Nos. 10201 to 10268’. Each numbered set of papers usually consists of an original letter sent to the Private Secretary to the Governor General, or to the Governor General, a copy of the reply from the Private Secretary, Lewin Bentham Bowring, and any other papers. In addition, for each set of papers, either on the back of the original letter, or on a separate sheet of paper, is written the number of the set of papers, the year, the name of the writer of the original letter, the official position and location of the sender, the date the letter was despatched, the date it was received, the date it was answered, any cross references to other papers, and a brief summary of the letter. Numbers 10201, 10202, 10203, 10204, 10208, 10214, 10216, 10217, 10220, 10221, 10226, 10227, 10228, 10229, 10230, and 10231 have a red cross on them, to indicate that they ‘may be preserved’, whilst ‘the rest may be destroyed’.
10201. Mar 1862 Letter from Captain C Baldwin, Bengal Staff Corps, Assistant Commissioner 2nd class, Central Provinces, Baitool. Complains of his supercession. Copy of reply, the Governor General recognises the hardship of his case, but regrets that it is not in his power to make any alteration. See also 9963
10202. Mar 1862 Letter from Mr T Oldham, Superintendent, Geological Survey, Calcutta. Sends some maps of the Geological Survey which are being packed up for the Great Exhibition, and a statement of the work done. Maps not enclosed. Endorsed: 'Does your Lordship wish to see Mr Oldham?'
10203. Mar 1862 Letter from Dr J B Barry, Surgeon, firm of R Scott Thomson and Company, Medical Hall, Calcutta. Sends a letter and box of Cachar tea for the Governor General. Copy of reply, grateful acknowledgement.

10206. Mar 1862 Letter from Baboo Jodoo Nauth Chowdry, ex-student of the Colootollah Government Branch School, Calcutta. Asks to be admitted as a free student into the Presidency or the Medical College.
10207. Mar 1862 Letter from Lieutenant N B Thoyts, Bombay Staff Corps, Dhoolia. States his services, specifies the type of employment he would like. Copy of reply, Private Secretary is sorry that his term of office is so nearly ended. Lord Canning ceases to be Governor General in three days, and he has no time to attend to personal applications. His best place would be to apply to enter the Central Provinces Commission.
10208. Feb - Mar 1862 Letter from Colonel Colin Mackenzie, late Governor General's Agent at Moorshedabad, Calcutta. Expresses thanks for his appointment as Superintendent of Army Clothing, but doubts his fitness for the post, and hopes to be allowed to continue in the Political Department.
10209. Mar 1862 Letter from Colonel H M Durand, Officiating Secretary to Government Foreign Department, Calcutta. Has ordered a copy of the Nazim's papers to be made for the Governor General.
10210. Mar 1862 Letter from Mr D Templeton, Assistant Secretary, District Charitable Society, Calcutta. Asks for the Governor General's donation to the Society before he leaves India.
10211. Mar 1862 Letter from Shere Singh, Sirdar Bahadoor, Resaldar of Meade's Horse, Calcutta. Asks for part of his ancestors' Jagheers to be restored to him, for his services during the Mutiny. Cover only. Endorsed: Transferred to Foreign Department.
