701. Papers relating to the Order of the Star of India. 1. Copy of letter from the Secretary of State to the Governor General on the institution of the order. The Viceroy to be Grand Master, first and principal knight. 3 May 1861. 2. Printed copy of the Calcutta Gazette Extraordinary of 5 Jul 1861 containing the Letters Patent establishing the order. In envelope. 3. Copy of the statutes of the order. 4. Copy of a letter from the Grand Master to the Secretary of State for India, 10 Jul 1861, grateful acknowledgment of 1 (above). 5. Copy of a letter from the Secretary of State for India to the Grand Master, 10 May 1861, sending enclosed list of Indian Princes who are to become KSI (Order of the Star of India). 6. Copy of the Queen's Warrant for a KSI, with blank for name. 7. Copy of the Queen's Warrant dispensing with the Regulations relating to personal investiture, with blank for name. 8. Copy of covenant made with each Knight, that he will restore the insignia of the order if he ceases to be a knight by death or any other reason. 9. Copy of letter from the Grand Master to the Secretary of State for India, 28 Jul 1861 in reply to 5 (above). 10. Copy of circular, 15 Jul 1861 forwarding copy of 2 (above) and a copy of the letter of the Grand Master to certain chiefs enclosing the grant of their Knighthoods, also a summary of the statutes, and instructions for the recipients' guidance in carrying out Her Majesty's intentions. Addressed to certain Residents and Agents.11. Copy of circular to the Nizam, Scindia, and other native Princes and chiefs, 13 Jul 1861 announcing the institution of the Order,and informing them that Her Majesty has been pleased to nominate them to be a Knight. 12. Copy of circular to Colonel Davidson and others (as in 10, above) 27 Jul 1861, naming the Chiefs and others who are to become KSI, and reporting that the Governor General will hold an investiture on 1 Nov. Gives instructions about the return of the insignia. 13. Abstract of the statues, with Urdu and Persian translations enclosed. 14. Extract from the London Gazette of 25 Jun 1861 announcing the establishment of the order, and the names of the members. 15. Copy of a letter from the Secretary of State for India to the Grand Master, 18 Jul 1861, about the insignia. In envelope.
