- 'Route from Peking [北京] to Gangtok (India) via Lhasa [拉薩] & return journey from Bhamo (Burma).' - War Office ledger. 2 journeys undertaken by Brigadier General George Pereira 1921-23.
- Scope & Content:
- Fair drawn copies done in the War Office (M.I.4) from Pereira's originals, with accompanying notes. The journeys traverse the following provinces: Chihli (直隸), Shansi (山西), Shensi (陕西), Honan (河南), Szechwan (四川), Kansu (甘肅), Yunnan (雲南) and Tibet (西藏), and Hainan (海南) Island. The map sheets show spot heights, hydrology, the route taken, and settlements, with some indication of terrain, and also include information on the locations of ethnic minorities, indication (by numbers of families) of sizes of settlements, of place-names, and of provincial boundaries. Wade-Giles romanisation is used for the majority of place-names. Larger settlements are named using Postal romanisation. Place-names in Tibet are romanised on the map sheets and discussed further in the accompanying notes.
