Papers were previously part of Private Secretary's Papers on Miscellaneous Subjects, no. 474, requested by the Governor General on 28 Apr 1860, and consist of the following:
1. Memorandum and covering letter by Sir R. Montgomery, dated 7 Jan [1860], on the scheme for abandoning Peshawar and Kohat. With notes by Charles Canning.
2. Memorandum and covering letter by Captain B. Henderson, dated 9 Mar 1860, regarding the abandonment of Kohat.
3. Letter from Major G. Hutchinson, officiating Military Secretary to the Government of the Punjab, to Mr Bowring, 10 Feb 1860, submitting remarks on the value of the Frontier possessions. Private Secretary's Correspondence no. 6680.
4. Memorandum and covering letter from Major G. Hutchinson, officiating Military Secretary to the Government of the Punjab, to Mr Bowring, dated 14 Mar 1860, on the result of his tour through the Trans Indus Frontier, with sketch map. Previously noted as missing from Private Secretary's Correspondence, no. 6858.
5. Memorandum and covering letter by Captain James, dated 20 Mar 1860, on the scheme for abandoning Peshawar and Kohat.
