Vice-Admiral Albert Markham's journal of his time as Commander-in-Chief at the Nore, the first entry dated November 1901 and closing on 17 August 1902.
The journal contains detailed entries describing Markham's daily activities, naval manoeuvres and gunnery practice, visits to ports and naval establishments, expeditions and sightseeing trips, and details of his social engagements.
The following loose items have been inserted into the volume:
- Programme of Float Out Ceremonies for HMS Odin and Merlin, inserted after the entry for 29 November, 1 folio.
- Diagram showing the order of the Royal Procession on 25 March 1902, with accompanying diagram of seating arrangements, and a list of dinner attendees, inserted after the entry for 24 March, 3 folios.
