2. Musical criticism of a performance of Richard Strauss's 'Ein Heldenleben', solo violin, Leopold Przemysław, conductor Richard Strauss, The Berlin State Opera Orchestra. An early, possibly school work.
3. Early autobiography with list of works; no date; c 1940. Originally inside brown envelope labelled in Fiona Searle's handwriting, 'Very Important: 'HS' early memoirs. Pages 1-60 in pencil – Only Copy’. See 2/6, 'Quadrille with a Raven', autobiography.

6. Poetry for arrangement or amusement. Typescripts and photocopies of various poems, made and kept by Searle either with a view to set to music, or because they were by friends, or for general interest: 'The Prince of Wales: A Dirge' (The Prince of Wales, 'Rosie’s pub', formerly at 23 Queen’s Grove, St. John's Wood, London). 'Song for Peace', W.R. Rodgers. Compare 'Put Away the Flutes', Op. 11, words also by Rodgers (known to Searle as 'Bertie') and set by Searle to music (1/3/1) . 'Evolution' from the 'I Hate to Housekeep Book', Peg Bracken (London: Arlington, 1967, p.146). An untitled version of the 'Cockney Alphabet' ('Aphorism, Beefor Mutton, C for yourself,' etc.), possibly Searle's own. 'On Listening to Music under Tropical Flowering Trees' from 'Tropicalia' by Sacheverell Sitwell, 1972. One of the 'Two Sitwell Songs' set to music by Searle, op. 73 (1980). 'To a Cat', Algernon Charles Swinburne, photocopy. 'Contemplations', Anne Bradstreet.
