2. ff. 153-175. Correspondence and papers relating to possible musical and scholarly commissions, originally filed with the contracts. This includes a photocopied extract sent to Searle from a programme book of the Bayreuther Festspiele 1968 featuring the opinions of various composers on this opera: Kurt Atterberg, Aram Chatschaturian, Luigi Dallapiccola, Werner Egk, Gottfried von Einem, Wolfgang Fortner, Alois Hába, Ernst Křenek, Frank Martin, Tauno Pylkkänen, Hermann Reutter, Knudåge Riisager, Harald Sæverud, Eugen Suchoň, Igor Strawinsky, Heinrich Sutermeiser, Michael Tippett. With a copy of a Memorandum of a meeting between the Committee of the Music Publishers’ Association and representatives of the Composers’ Guild, 21 June 1951.

Donated by Prof. Morten Lauridsen of the University of Southern California through the offices of Dr. Byron Adams. Includes: Curriculum Vitae; List of Compositions; Text of ‘Contemplations’ by Anne Bradstreet (3 pages); Correspondence, internal and external, regarding Searle’s appointment and arrival at the USC; Listings of accommodation, possibly under consideration; one entry ticked; Invitation to the preview of the opening of the Arnold Schoenberg Institute at the University of Southern California, with reference to Searle’s lecture ‘Schoenberg Today’ (see MS Mus. 1747/2/1).
