Work-book 17: Dated 21 March 1981 onwards, no end date.

- ff.99v-109: Sketches for incidental music for London Weekend Television's magazine programme 'The South Bank Show'.
- ff.109v-130: Various unidentified sketches and workings on rhythmic structures, some perhaps for 'Rhythm-studies I and II' (op. 32). Includes sketch scored for voice and tape; sketch and notes for demo titled 'Triumph/Acclaim'; sketches for percussion instruments; and a sketch titled 'Jali Jali'.

General notes include: postcard from Susan Bradshaw (f.172); notes on established musical culture, outlining plans for the direction of current and future work (ff.179v-181); plans for trip to Senegal and The Gambia (ff.181v-187); and a drafted advertisement for musicians for proposed improvising band Square Root (ff.245-246v).
Work-book 19: Dated May/June 1982 - January 1983. Sketches for Symphony for small orchestra (op. 37); 'Riff-raff' (op. 34); and some abandoned incidental music for 'Horizon'. Also includes other general notes.
