1. 'Theme and Variations' for flute and piano
- ff.1-16: Prints of piano score and flute part from autograph fair copies, with some pencil annotations and corrections (fair copy transparencies do not survive for this work). Dated January 1967 after final bar line; this piece was composed for 1967 BBC Young Composers Competition.
2. 'Day and Dream' for tenor, wind and piano
- ff.17-71: Print of autograph fair copy full score, with some annotations and corrections in pencil and red ink (fair copy transparencies do not survive for this work). The piece is a song cycle in seven movements, with a duration of around 22 minutes, composed during Swayne's first year at the Royal Academy of Music: I. Symphony; II. To Morning (Blake); III. Merry Margaret (Skelton); IV. "There is sweet music here..." (Tennyson); V. Clock-a-Clay (Clare); VI. To the Evening-Star (Blake); VII. Finale: The Owl and the Pusscat (Edward Lear). The fourth movement is marked to be cut.
3. 'Birthday Song for Colin, 4/11/96'
- f.72: Autograph fair score with some corrections. Pencil and ink on paper. Signed under final bar and dated 1 November 1996. Composed as a 50th birthday gift for Colin Matthews.
