Receipt slips for land tax paid to the Earl of Hardwicke by tenants in Wimpole and Arrington, West Wickham, Kingston and Molton, and Whaddon. The receipts for tax due at Michaelmas and Lady Day were pinned or stuck together with wax in pairs for each landowner or tenant, and tied in bundles by district.

1. Land tax receipts for Wimpole and Arrington, one year to Lady Day 1788. Manuscript and printed receipt slips for land tax payments by Wimpole and Arrington tenants due on Michaelmas 1787 and Lady Day 1788, to the Earl of Hardwicke. Signed by James Barton (1787) and T. Daintry (1788). Pairs of slips pinned or stuck together with wax, with summary of year’s payments on verso. In two tied bundles, inscribed ‘Wimple Tax Receipts ex[amined].’ and ‘Arrington Tax Receipts ex[amined].’
2. Land tax receipts for West Wickham, three years to Lady Day 1789. Manuscript receipt slips for land tax payments by West Wickham tenants due 1786-1789, to the Earl of Hardwicke. Chiefly signed by John Turpin. Pairs of slips stuck together with wax, with summary of year’s payments on verso. In three bundles, 1786-7, 1788 and 1789, with a title slip inscribed ‘1788 West Wickham Vouchers ex[amined.]’.
3. Land tax receipts for Kingston and Molton, one year to Michaelmas 1787. Manuscript receipts for land tax payments by Kingston and Molton tenants (Cole, Cole and Scruby) due on Lady Day and Michaelmas 1787, to the Earl of Hardwicke. Pairs of slips, stuck together with wax or pins. The top slip is inscribed ‘Kingston & [Orwell, crossed out] Molton Tax Receipts. ex[amined]’.
4. Land tax receipts for Whaddon, one year to Michaelmas 1787. Manuscript receipt slips for land tax payments by Whaddon tenants due on Lady Day and Michaelmas 1787, to the Earl of Hardwicke. Chiefly signed by Hale Fairchild (some by J. Wallis and C. W. Stockbridge, and Adams Moule). Pairs of slips pinned or stuck together with wax, with summary of year’s payments on verso. In a tied bundle inscribed on top slip ‘Whaddon Tax Receipts. ex[amined.]’
5. Land tax receipts 1785-1787. Printed receipts for land tax payments for various dates 1785-1787. Chiefly signed by Richard Dewdney and W. Robinson. Single slips, on printed forms, with date, names and sums written in, but no place names.
