Account of Lydia King Baker's journey from Noacolly [Noakhali] to Sylhet by boat 4-12 August 1843; and of time spent in Sylhet staying with Annie Sealy (1821-1869), wife of Cudbert Thornhill Sealy the local magistrate, until 12 October 1843.
The diary recounts her daily life in Sylhet including numerous daily visitors to the Sealy residence, drives in the carriage in the evenings and occasional horseback rides. Also included are accounts of plays and theatrical productions, balls and other social events.
The diary contains also a large amount of gossip about the various neighbours, friends and visitors in Sylhet, and comments on a number of individuals who were considered to be vying for Lydia's affections.
The main focus of the diary however is the arrival of Mr (Herbert) Raban at Sylhet on 17 August, her thoughts on his affections and intentions towards her and her own feelings towards him, culminating in his proposal of marriage to her on 19 September which she accepts.
The diary entries end on 16 October 1843 with the arrival of her mother.
