Diary kept by Robert Francis Salisbury Pitt (1858-1907), a Civil Engineer. Robert married Lydia Fanny Sophia Raban on 29 May 1890. They had one daughter, Christian Augusta b.1896.
The diary commences with a summary of Robert Pitt's life from his birth 6 October 1857, through to his marriage to Lydia Raban 29 May 1890 and the birth of their daughter Christian on 3 May 1896. The summary ends at about September 1898.
Daily diary entries commence on Christmas Day 1898 with very brief entries describing the people and places they visited. As well as diary entries for 1899 there are also some accounts for Jan-Apr 1899 relating to wages. There are consecutive entries until 26 December 1901. For 1902 there are a handful of entries on folios 24-25 covering dates in January and February only.
For 1899, 1900 and 1901 there is also a 'weather diary' summarising each months weather for that year.
Folios 18v-19 contain notes on Falmouth Waterworks recorded 20 April 1900 which relate to Robert's work as a Civil Engineer.
