Copies of transcripts of 51 items of original correspondence primarily between Lieutenant-Colonel William Raban, Resident at Cheribon, Java and The Hon. Thomas Stamford Raffles, Lieutenant-Governor of Java, 1811-1814. The correspondence relates to the day to day administration of Cheribon and contains detailed reports on the residency and its workings.
Also included is a letter to John Crauford, appointed as special commissioner for the introduction of land revenue in Java in 1813; a letter from the War Office 20 December 1814 regarding Lt-Col Raban's award of the Java Medal; and a note written by William Raban c.1814 believed to be regarding his concerns for the future of his young daughter Emma.
The copies were transcribed and typed by Peter Raban, dated as 1 October 1948. They contain handwritten notes, comments and corrections made by him.
Also included is a list of contents and an alphabetical index.
