Dastūr lil-iḥtirās min al-wabāʾ wa-al-ṭāʿūn wa-ʿilāj lil-jamrah al-musammāh bi-lughat ahl al-Mawṣil ḍarabah (دستور للاحتراس من الوباء والطاعون وعلاج للجمرة المسماة بلغة أهل الموصل ضربة)
- Scope & Content:
-
Medical manual on the maintenance of health during times of pestilence. The mention of Mosul in the title suggests that the author is Muḥammad Badīʿ (محمد بديع), author of the preceding text on an outbreak of smallpox and measles at Mosul in 1223/1808-9 (see f. 159v, lines 5-7). If this identification of the author is correct, the father whose extracts from books of medicine served as the basis for the present text (see f. 163v, lines 2-3, transcribed below) is the Ottoman litterateur, poet and physician of Mosul Muḥammad Amīn Bek ibn Ibrāhīm Bek ibn Yūnus Afandī ibn Yāsīn Afandī al-Muftī ibn Maḥmūd Afandī (محمد أمين بك بن إبراهيم بك بن يونس أفندي بن ياسين أفندي المفتي بن محمود أفندي, d. ca 1812, see Raʾūf, 'al-Adīb al-ṭabīb Muḥammad Amīn Bek Āl Yāsīn al-Muftī al-Mawṣilī' [2016]).
Begins (f. 163v, lines 1-5):
Ends (f. 165r, lines 20-27):
