Title:

A collection of works and extracts mostly on medicine

Scope & Content:

Collection of treatises, extracts and notes on medicine followed by a treatise on pen cutting and ink-making.

The manuscript appears to have been in the possession of the Āl al-Muftī (آل المفتي), a family of physicians in Ottoman Mosul. Extracts of a work by the litterateur, poet and physician of Mosul Muḥammad Amīn Bek ibn Ibrāhīm Bek ibn Yūnus Afandī ibn Yāsīn Afandī al-Muftī ibn Maḥmūd Afandī (محمد أمين بك بن إبراهيم بك بن يونس أفندي بن ياسين أفندي المفتي بن محمود أفندي, d. ca 1812, see Raʾūf, 'al-Adīb al-ṭabīb Muḥammad Amīn Bek Āl Yāsīn al-Muftī al-Mawṣilī' [2016]), known as Amīn Bek Yāsīn Afandīzādah (أمين بك ياسين أفندي زاده, see. f. 165v, line 2), were copied into the manuscript by a grandson of that author (see ff. 1v-2r, 111, 116r, 140v-145r and 165v-171r), who left marginalia throughout the manuscript (see e.g. ff. 11v, 15r-v, 16v, 17v, 174v, and 180v). At least one, and perhaps two, of the texts in the manuscript were composed by Muḥammad Amīn Bek's son Muḥammad Badīʿ (محمد بديع, see ff. 159v-163r and 163v-165r). Condition: Minor tidemarks in upper edge corners on ff. 34-45, edge margins of ff. 1-3 mutilated and repaired with no loss of text, f. 180 torn across writing area and repaired obscuring some text

Marginalia: Extensive marginalia on most folios especially towards beginning of volume

Seals: f. 1r (erased); British Museum seal ff. 1r and 180v
