Scope & Content:

Volume two of an encyclopaedia of technical terminology for self-teaching by the Mughal scholar Muḥammad Aʻlá ibn ʿAlī ibn al-Qāḍī Muḥammad Ḥāmid ibn Muḥammad ibn Ṣābir al-Fārūqī al-Tahānawī (محمد أعلى بن علي بن القاضي محمد حامد بن محمد بن صابر الفاروقي التهانوي, d. after 1745).

The foliation is continuous between the two volumes so that volume two begins with f. 265r, which contains the remainder of the entry on al-ḥawālah (الحوالة, from Chapter ḥāʾ, section lām [باب الحاء المهملة فصل اللام الحاصل]).The manuscript is defective at end and finishes abruptly in the entry on al-ṣalm (الصلم) at the beginning of Chapter ṣād, section mīm (باب الصاد فصل الميم, f. 568v). The majority of the entries are in Arabic, but some are in Persian.

The historic front flyleaves (foliated 1A-B to 1G-B) contain calculations in Kaithi script, which are unrelated to the main text of the manuscript.
