(1). ff. 1-5. ‘The Self Banished’, song for soprano or tenor, words by Edmund Waller, c. 1875. Fair copy in ink. Former references: MS69; 1977.719.
(2). ff. 6-11. ‘Roundel’, song for voice and piano, words by Algernon Charles Swinburne, 1897. Fair copy, not in Elgar's hand, together with a photocopy of the same. Former references: MS105; 1999.016.
(3). ff. 12-20. ‘The Ballad of Brave Hector A Worcestershire Worthy’, for voice and piano, words by Ethel Anderson, 1922. The text of the poem as published in Punch, 12 April 1922 (f. 12); sketch of the vocal line in ink (ff. 13-14); vocal line for all verses with a partial sketch of a piano part in pencil (ff. 15-20). Former references: MS84(1); 1977.711.1.
(4). ff. 21-22. ‘The Worcestershire Squire’, song for voice and piano, words by Ethel Anderson, 1922. Single-stave draft of the vocal line with a separate typescript of words by Ethel Anderson. Former references: MS84(2); 1977.711.2.
(5). ff. 23-30. 'I gave my heart unto my love', song for piano and voice begun in 1930 but not completed. Also known by the title ‘XTCE’ (i.e. ecstasy). Fragmentary sketches and two drafts:
- f. 23. Incomplete sketch without words but headed 'soprano' and dated '21st Oct. 1930'. Former references: MS111; 1999.022.
- f. 24. Fragmentary sketch, untitled but containing melodic material from the song. Former references: MS80; 1977.708.7.
- ff. 25-30. Two drafts, with continuous vocal lines. The first is without words, the second includes Elgar's text and is headed 'XTCE'. Both with fragmentary accompaniment parts. Former references: MS82A; 1977.708.10.
(6). ff. 31-32. Song of the Bull (In May week), revue song for male voice and piano. Dated ‘June 1924’. The first line of text is 'If ever you go to Cambridge Town in May week...'. Words by Lord Hamilton. Fair copy in ink. Former references: MS117; 1999.107.
(7). ff. 33-37. ‘It is nae me’, song for voice and piano, words by Sally Holmes, 1930. Drafts with various ammendments in pencil and red ink. Former references: MS89; 1977.731.
