ff. 1-16. Hymns and anthems in English composed by Edward Elgar and in his hand unless otherwise stated.
(1). f. 1-2. ‘Praise ye the Lord on every Height’ (later provided with new text to become Good Morrow). Soprano part, fair copy. Headed 'No. 15. Praise' and stamped 'St. George's Catholic Church Worcester'. Former references MS49(1); 1977.647.2; EBT MS12.
(2). f. 3-5. ‘Hear thy children gentle Jesus’ (Drakes Broughton), hymn, fair copy. With printed text pasted at the bottom of the page and printed 'No. 200' pasted at the top, but with 200 crossed out and replaced by 183 in manuscript. Dated ‘July 21.1878’ at the bottom of the page, in Elgar's hand. Former references: MS58(1); 1977.638.1.
(3). ff. 6-13. ‘Fear not, O land. Anthem for parish choirs’, for SATB chorus and organ. Draft in ink, with some alterations in pencil. Former references: MS135; 2000.012, from the Wulstan Atkins Collection.
(4). f. 14. ‘O perfect love’, hymn. An annotation at the top of the page refers to 'No. 578 in Hymns Ancient and Modern (1889/1909 editions)'. Spuriously attributed to Elgar, but Moore (1989, 132-4) states it was composed by Alice Stuart Wortly and harmonised by Elgar. 'C. Alice Wortley June 22 1914' crossed out at the bottom of the page but 'Alice Stuart Wortley' added at the top of the score in Elgar's hand. Former references: MS85; 1977.700.2.
(5). ff. 15-16. 'A simple Carol for His Majesty's recovery', also known as Good Morrow. First performed at St George's Chapel, Windsor, 1929. Folio 12 is laid out as if for a keyboard instrument, with a single line labelled 'voci' left blank. It is crossed through in blue pencil. Folio 13 is a draft of the setting of the final verse of the text, with 'K' in blue pencil across the middle of the page. Former references: MS32; 1977.667; EBT MS 27.
