ff. 1-17. Individual litanies in score. Numbers 3, 6, 7 and 11 are believed to have been composed in part by Elgar around 1885-1886.
(1). ff. 1-2. 'Litany', for SATB voices. Undated fair copy of 'Litany 3' (see MS Mus. 1843/1/18) in an unknown hand. Former references: MS95; 1999.013.
(2). ff. 3-16. 14 litanies in score, numbered: 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 20, 22, 23, 27. Dated on all ‘Sept 1886’. Not in Elgar's hand. Former references: MS96; 1999.014.
(3). f. 17. ‘Chant' and hymn for children. In four parts in short score, without text. Inscribed to Ivor Atkins ('IA') in 1931 but with the date 1876 below, all in the same red ink. Thought to be a copy of an earlier piece made towards the end of Elgar's life and presented to Atkins. Former references: MS129; 2000.011, from the collection of Wulstan Atkins.
