The volume contains cases brought before the Police Magistrate, or the Police Magistrate and the Justice of the Peace, at the Police Court at Freetown between 28 November 1890 and 7 April 1891. It includes an index that lists the cases by name of the defendant and provides information on the offence, the sentence and the page number in the volume. For each case, information is provided on the date on which the case was heard at the Police Court, the date on which the offence was committed, the name of the Police Magistrate, the plaintiff and the defendant. Information is also provided about the offence, whether the prisoner pleaded guilty, and the sentence given. It sometimes includes information on the oaths taken by the constable, the plaintiff, the defendant, or of witnesses. The cover and the spine are damaged, which means that the binding is loose. There are some traces of water damage.
