Scope & Content:

This series relates to cases brought before the Police Magistrate at the Police Court at Freetown between 1837 and 1898. The reports of cases include the date, the names of the plaintiff and of the defendant, and a short title relating to the case. Cases relate to offences ranging from petty theft to assault. The evidence includes accounts by the constable, the plaintiff, the defendant, and witnesses. Information is also provided on sentencing.
