al-Yaḥyāwīyah fī ḥubb khayr al-barīyah اليحياوية في حب خير البرية
- Scope & Content:
-
Anonymous treatise on hippiatry entitled Treatise for Yaḥyá, on Love for the Best of Creation (اليحياوية في حب خير البرية, f. 185v, line 13). The copy was completed on 18 Rabīʿ I 893/ 2 March 1488 by the scribe ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad al-Ḥāḍir ibn al-Ḥaydar (علي بن محمد بن الحاضر بن الحيضر, see colophon, f. 205v, line 18). The identity of the dedicatee, Yaḥyá, is unknown.
The work consists of an introduction and nine chapters (fuṣūl), plus an addendum on parade manouevres (استخراج) consisting of eight drill exercises (bunūd, f. 201v-205v); not all sections are present due to intermittent losses to the volume.
Two misplaced folios are bound into the volume following the colophon (f. 205v): f. 206 belongs to the present text, while f. 207 bears a qaṣīdah copied in a different hand about Abū Naṣr Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Maḥmūd, 'who wrote on the difference between [the letters] ḍād and ẓāʾ' (الكاتب في الفرق بين الضاد والظاء).

- Part of Section Two on afflictions caused by being fettered (الفصل الثاني فيما يعرض له في بيت شكاله, ff. 192r-193v);

- Section Four on afflictions of the limbs (الفصل الرابع فيما يعرض له في أعضائه, ff. 194r-195r);
- Section Five on afflictions of the veins (الفصل الخامس فيما يعرض له في العروق, ff. 195r-196v);
- Section Six on afflictions of the shoulders (الفصل السادس فيما يعرض له في الكتف, ff. 196v-197v);
