Add MS 23560, ff 98v-214v

An Arabic-language treatise on compound medicaments also entitled Qarābādhīn (قراباذين), by Maḥmud ibn Masʿūd ʽImad al-Din Shīrāzī (محمود بن مسعود عماد الدين شيرازى, fl. 16th century). The copy was completed on 23 Ramaḍān 1099/22 July 1688 (see colophon, f. 214v, transcribed below). The twenty-five chapters (bābs) of the treatise are listed on the contents pages (f. 99r-v).

In the preface Shīrāzī states that from his youth he had studied the standard medical works with his father and other physicians and worked as a doctor for twenty years before coming to the court of Shāh Ṭahmāsp I (1514-1576), to whom he dedicates the present work (f. 99r, lines 11-12).

The author also mentions his engagement with composing a manual of medicine, which he had by this point completed as far as the chapter on the anatomy of the tongue. The work mentioned is probably the first text in the present volume.

The work is followed by four folios bearing medical recipes (ff. 215r-218r).
