Abridgement of the comprehensive medical compendium Dhakhīrah-i Khwārazmshāhī (ذخيره خوارزمشاهي) which the author, Ismaʿīl ibn Ḥasan al-Jurjānī (اسماعيل بن الحسن الجرجاني, d. 1042/4) had composed previously.
The abridgement was composed at the request of the second Khwārazmshāhī ruler ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn Ātsiz ibn Muḥammad (علاء الدين اتسز بن محمد, r. 1127-56, see f. 218v, line 4), and the present copy was transcribed on 4 Dhū al-Qaʿdah 1099/31 August 1688 (see colophon, f. 262v, transcribed below).
The text consists of two parts, as detailed in the contents (ff. 218v-219r): the first on theoretical medicine comprising two maqālahs on the preservation of health and on diagnosis (ff. 218v-237v); and the second part on practical medicine (ff. 237v-262v). The part on practice, in seven maqālahs, covers advice to physicians, treatment of diseases; fevers, measles and smallpox; tumors, sores and wounds; fractures, bruises and dislocations; treatment of the hair and of skin diseases; and antidotes.
