A narrative thangka illustrating the story of Pema Öbar པདྨ་འོད་འབར (Wylie Padma ’od ’bar) or Kheu Pema Öbar ཁྱེའུ་པདྨ་འོད་འབར་ (Wylie Khye’u Padma ’od ’bar). Size including the cloth surround 71-74 x 136 cm. Very basic framing which is not original and now crops into the image area. Visible image (melong) size 47.5 x 66 cm, but the original aiting is larger than this. Finely detailed. Some cracks due to creasing, heavily stained in the upper right quarter of the image area from usage and with some paint loss but otherwise readable. One 1893 two anna coin, with the head of Empress Victoria, attached to the hook used to hold the thangka when rolled up. Upper section of the canvas has been stitched on to extend the area of the painting. . Creation dates: Late 19th / Early 20th century.
Custodial history: An object donated to Dolma Ling nunnery by Buchen Gyurme. It probably belonged to one of three Lama Manipa who had fled from Tibet and who continued to perform within the exile Tibetan communities in India and Nepal. These manipa were Buchen Gyurme (Wylie ’Gyur med), Buchen Norgye (Wylie Nor rgyas), and Buchen Passang (Wylie Pa sangs) . The thangka's provenance prior to its deposit at Dolma Ling is unknown.
