Ten watercolours of Japanese temples and beauty spots around Kyoto, preceded by a loose sheet of paper inscribed in English with the title: "Drawings of Japanese Temples & other Buildings, as also of their habits & done by the Japanese themselves, and brought fom thence by Dr. Engelbert Kempfer. Baskets of several fruits & flowers from China".
The drawings are mounted individually. On the verso of each drawing is an inscription in Japanese executed in brush calligraphy indicating the place name, as well as a transliteration of the same in Latin script. A list of the place names correspondent to places depicted in this series of watercolours may be found in an article by Yu-Ying Brown, "Kaempfer's Album of Famous Sights of Seventeenth century Japan", The British Library Journal 15, no. 1 (Spring 1989), 90-103.
