- These are the original covers of Add MS 5252. It is a British Museum binding of red goatskin tooled in gold, measuring 530 x 390 mm. Written in golden characters on the spine are the words 'Japanese Chinese Drawings / MSS Kaempfer / Mus. Brit. / Sloane / 5252 / XL.B'. Some of the folios on which the drawings were originally pasted are still preserved between the two covers.
