Tadhkirah li-Ibn Sīnā تذكرة لابن سينا
Jūzjānī, ʻAbd al-Wāḥid جوزجاني، عبد الواحد
- Scope & Content:
-
Biography of Abū ʻAlī al-Ḥusayn ibn ʻAbd Allāh (أبو علي الحسين بن عبد الله), known as Ibn Sīnā (ابن سينا, latinised as Avicenna, d. 1037), with a list of his works (ff. 6r-7v).
The text is a paraphrased version of the widely-circulated autobiography by Ibn Sīnā, completed by his pupil ʻAbd al-Wāḥid al-Juzjani (عبد الواحد الجوزجاني, active 11th century) after his master’s death. The first half of the present text corresponds to the abbreviated and extended version of the biography transmitted by Ẓāhir al-Dīn ʻAlī ibn Abī al-Qāsim Zayd al-Bayhāqī (ظاهر الدين علي بن أبي القاسم زيد البيهقي, d. 1174), while the bibliography provided corresponds to a later, extended version (see Gutas, Dimitri, Avicenna and the Aristotelian Tradition. Introduction to Reading Avicenna’s Philosophical Works, 2nd ed., including an Inventory of Avicenna’s Authentic Works [Leiden, Boston: Brill, 2014], pp. 392-400 on the complexities of Ibn Sīnā's bibliographies).
A marginal collation note in Persian appears on f. 5r.
